I have a problem with Japanese bamboo encroching on my garden. Does anyone know of a good remedy to stop it? - remedy herbicide

This is not a true bamboo but a member of the buckwheat family, so I'm told.It parts of the underground passages (rhysomes), and it is extremely prolific.I rather a method of herbicides. I have tried to cut the stems and pour bleach into the hollow stems. Who has little success.
